On Thursday the 19th of October, Air League Members took part in a behind-the-scenes tour of air freight handling facilities at Heathrow Airport!
Hosted by Heathrow Airport Limited, Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) and Singapore Airlines, the participants took part in various workshops and presentations at the Heathrow Employment & Skills Academy to explore the careers offered in the air cargo industry with application and CV advice. They also toured the vast WFS cargo handling warehouse, which handles both inbound and outbound air cargo, with opportunities to speak to representatives throughout the night for any questions and advice. At the end of the evening, participants witnessed a turnaround of a Singapore Airlines 747 freighter aircraft! From the aircraft’s arrival at the stand to the doors closing for departure, the intricate and exclusive aircraft tour included explanations of the equipment used, a full aircraft walkaround, witnessing of the cargo being loaded, a tour inside the cargo hold and a cockpit visit.
The Air League thanks Heathrow Airport Limited, Worldwide Flight Services and Singapore Airlines for their organisation and facilitation of this event, which has greatly benefitted our young members interested in a career in cargo aviation. Opportunities like these are invaluable, and participants now have a broader view of the air cargo industry and the career pathways available.
