Congratulations to our 2024 Engineering Scholars, who have recently completed their placements with Affinity Flying Training Services! Over the summer, Jack, Annmaria and Moaeez completed a 2-week work placement which saw them getting hands on with projects at Affinity’s RAF Cranwell facility.
The Air League’s Engineering Scholarships take place each Summer, and provide young people pursuing a career in aviation or aerospace engineering the chance to gain valuable experience and learn new skills, guided by a leading engineering firm. The two week placements include the opportunity to conduct hands-on work on current projects, as well as shadowing Engineering and Maintenance personnel; providing an insight into the career of an aerospace engineer.
“I really appreciate the opportunity with Affinity Flying Services. Everybody at RAF Cranwell was excellent and helped me so much with my future career. Getting hands on experience was invaluable before my apprenticeship starts, as I now feel like I have a leg up once I start. Affinity let me see in detail all areas of engineering, from the Flight Line, Part 145 and the Wheel and Tyre Bay. I learnt so much from each aspect and would like to say thank you to Affinity for their hospitality and time!”
– Jack Hutchinson, Scholar
“My time at Affinity was nothing short of amazing. I would like to extend a special thanks to the aircraft technicians and licensed aircraft engineers who have allowed me to get hands-on and work on the aircraft. Even just tightening or loosening a few nuts and bolts on the aircraft made me feel like a valued member of the team and goes a long way to improve my hand skills, something that would not be possible at university. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the placement!”
– Moaeez Rehman, Scholar
“I want to sincerely thank you for the incredible opportunity provided through the engineering scholarship. I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the engineers in Part 145, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Visiting the different departments was an eye-opening experience, showing me how everything works together seamlessly to keep operations running smoothly. Meeting so many people with amazing backgrounds and listening to their career journeys was also truly inspiring, and I’m grateful for the chance to learn from such experienced professionals.”
– Annmaria Tome, Scholar
The Air League expresses its continued gratitude to Affinity Flying Training Services for its support in facilitating the 2024 Engineering Scholarships.
