in 2025, we’re offering Engineering scholarships at Affinity flying training services limited and virgin atlantic

2 week work placement

This placement offers a unique opportunity to gain experience with Affinity Flying Training Services, a key organisation supporting the UK’s military air capability. Based at RAF Cranwell, scholars will contribute to real-world projects and shadow Engineering and Maintenance personnel. Perfect for those passionate about aerospace engineering, particularly in the defence sector. Full board accommodation will be provided for the duration of the placement.

2 week work placement

This placement provides an immersive experience in a commercial aviation setting. Scholars will engage in projects and gain insight into engineering and maintenance operations at Virgin Atlantic’s Heathrow Base. Perfect for those aspiring to a career in the airline industry, this program offers a look at the challenges and innovations in commercial aircraft maintenance. Full board accommodation will be provided for the duration of the placement.

Applications open on Tuesday, 4th March 2025. Applications close at 11:59pm on Wednesday, 30th April.  

You must be:

-Air League Member

-Aged 18 or older on the 1st of June 2025

-UK Citizen

-Have the ambition to pursue a career in aerospace engineering or maintenance. 

In order to be considered for the Virgin Atlantic placements, you must be a current student at the University of South Wales, Newcastle College or City College Norwich. All applicants will be considered for the Affinity Flying Training Services placements. 

You must be aged 18 or older on the 1st of June 2025.

Engineering scholarships will take place in August 2025 during the student holiday period. 

In addition to your Engineering scholarship, full board accommodation for the duration of the scholarship is included.

Our scholarships are open to all that meet the legal requirements listed above.

The application process is split into two stages.

The first stage is an assessment of your application by two independent members of the scholarship selection committee.

If you are successful in the first stage, you will be invited to a second stage online interview.

Yes. If you are successful in the first stage, interviews will be held online with the Air League and placement provider representatives. 

Unfortunately, The Air League is unable to help with travel costs.  

Yes. A valid Air League membership is required to apply for all scholarships and bursaries.
