- THE PROMOTERS
The Promoters are Air League Trust of 4 Hamilton Pl, London W1J 7BQ in partnership with Sustainable Skies, IAG, AWAM and British Airways.
THE COMPETITION
The title of the competition is Global Innovators’ Challenge – Net Zero Aviation.
The poster competition is open to all those aged 11 to 15. Students studying at UK institutions or are home schooled in the UK are invited by the Promoters to enter a competition to support the Aviation Industry in promoting awareness of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. We are also inviting students aged 11 to 15 in Kenya to submit posters through our partners at AWAM. All submitted posters will be displayed at the Sustainable Skies World Summit. Winners will informed using the email address the entry was submitted on and be announced by the Air League in the week following the event.
The proposal competition is open to all those in full or part time education; sixth form, college, university students and apprentices are encouraged to apply. Students and apprentices studying at UK institutions or employed by UK organisations are invited by the Promoters to enter a competition to support the Aviation Industry in achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. Proposals from young people studying in Kenya will submit their entries to AWAM and a winning team will be selected to compete in the UK finals (This maybe in person or virtually depending on funding).
HOW TO ENTER
There is no entry fee.
Individuals, teams or teachers must register their interest using the correct form for their age group by the the 24th of October 2025.
Poster Competition (11 – 15 year olds)
Proposal Competition (16 – 25 year olds)
By registering your interest, you are not making a firm commitment to enter, but you will miss out on vital information about how to submit and receive further support throughout the competition if you don’t.
Teachers can register on behalf of several students.
Posters must be sized A3 for printing and display purposes.
Proposals must not exceed 1,000 words and be submitted in Word or PDF format.
Details about how to submit will be shared via email to those who register closer to the submission deadline (30th January 2026).
SHORTLISTED PROPOSAL ENTRIES
Up to seven shortlisted entries will be contacted by the 27th of Feb using the email address used to submit the competition entry.
These shortlisted entries will invited to the Sustainable Skies World Summit on Tuesday the 17th of March 2026 to present their ideas to a panel of judges (in the style of Dragon’s Den), as part of the final stage of judging.
Travel and accommodation assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis and will be dependent on several factors like distance required to travel and means available.
ELIGIBILITY
The poster competition should be entered as individuals unless there are circumstances where an entrant needs extra support from a peer.
For the proposal competition no more than four participants can make up a team. Team members should only consist of students, apprentices or recent graduates on a graduate scheme. Participants can be from one institution or be a collaboration of several institutions. We encourage a collaborative process, however the competitions can be entered by individuals if you wish to work alone.
In entering the competition, each team member confirms that they are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prizes the team may win. The Promoters may require teams to provide proof that they are eligible to enter the competition.
The Promoters will not accept entries that are plagiarised or AI generated. The work must be original.
The Promoters reserve all rights to disqualify teams if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition.
THE PRIZE
The prizes do not include the cost of travel. Any other costs incurred in addition to reasonable travel expenses to and from the Sustainable Skies World Summit that are incidental to the fulfilment of the prize are the responsibility of the team.
For the proposal competition, you will be responsible for ensuring that you are available to attend the Summit and judging panel on the relevant dates.
The Promoters reserve the right to replace the prize with an alternative(s) and travel arrangements if circumstances beyond the Promoters control makes it necessary to do so.
Travel and accommodation assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis and will be dependent on several factors like distance required to travel and means available.
All prizes are not negotiable or transferable.
*Prizes listed on the website are available to permanent UK residents only. There will be other arrangements made for the winning team from Kenya.
WINNERS
The competition entries will be judged by a panel of judges. Judging will be based on:
- Clarity of Explanation: How well the topic is explained.
- Creativity: Originality and visual appeal of the design.
- Relevance: How effectively the poster highlights the importance of sustainability in aviation.
- Meeting UK aviation’s carbon reduction targets
- Ability to implement the proposal
The decision of the judges nominated by the Promoters is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
The winner of the proposal competition will be announced at the final event on 17th March 2026 at the Sustainable Skies World Summit at Farnborough International as well as on the Air League Trust and British Airways online channels.
All finalists will be promoted on the Air League and Sustainable Aviation website and in other media channels, although you have the right to opt out of this if you wish to remain anonymous.
CLAIMING THE PRIZE
The Promoter will also contract the winning teams on the email address provided to make arrangements regarding the prize after the winners have been announced.
The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
Please be aware that some of the prizes may take a few months to organise due to staffing commitments at the partner organisation who has donated that prize.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
OWNERSHIP OF COMPETITION ENTRIES AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
The Promoter does not claim any rights of ownership in your competition entry.
You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, promote details of your entry on their websites, or sustainable aviation websites, and in any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant the Promoters a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry and any accompanying materials for such purposes.
CONFIDENTIALTY
All entrants must keep details of their competition entry confidential until the winners are announced.
All entrants acknowledge that during the presentations other finalist teams may not observe their presentations.
DATA PROTECTION AND PUBLICITY
The Promoters will only process your personal information as set out in the following page: GDPR-Privacy-Notice-document-2020.pdf (airleague.co.uk) only in connection with the competition and these terms and conditions.
GENERAL
If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoters may, at their sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
The Promoters reserve the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
