pOSTER cOMPETITION

CAN YOU HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF FLYING?

If you are between the ages of 11 and 15, we want YOUR creativity to help show the world how aviation is becoming more sustainable and eco-friendly.

Design an eye-catching A3 poster that’s fun, educational, and inspired by one of our four exciting topics.

Your poster should grab attention, teach others something new, and share your vision for greener skies.

Why should I enter?

  • Your poster will be displayed at the Sustainable Skies World Summit at Farnborough Airport on the 17 – 18 March, which is attended by thousands of aviation experts who will judge your work.
  • Learning more about sustainability innovations in aviation.
  • The chance to take to the skies with an exclusive flight experience.

Prizes

  • Take to the skies with an exclusive flight experience day at a local airfield.
  • The finalists’ posters will feature on Air League social media channels and shared with our 200+ Members!

tHE CATEGORIES

Choose one of the four categories below as your topic:

1. Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a special type of fuel for aeroplanes that’s made from things other than oil, like plants, waste, or even used cooking oil. It helps cut down the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere, making flying much greener.

We’d like you to explain in your poster:

  • What SAF is – what makes it different from normal jet fuel.
  • How it’s made – the cool ways it can be created.
  • How it’s used now – where and how planes are already flying with SAF.
  • The pros and cons – what’s great about SAF, and what challenges there still are.
  • The future – how we can get more airlines and airports around the world to use SAF.

You can also think about how SAF is made, stored, handled, and even what future fuels might be made from.

2. electric aircraft

Electric Aircraft are new types of aeroplanes powered by batteries instead of jet fuel. Some small ones are already flying today! Because they run on electricity, they create much less pollution and are helping to make flying greener.

We’d like you to explain in your poster:

  • How they work – what’s different between electric aeroplanes and fuel-powered aeroplanes.
  • Examples – some of the electric aircraft flying now, and some being designed for the future.
  • Pros and cons – what’s awesome about electric planes, and what the challenges are.
  • Flight range – how far they can go compared to normal aircraft.
  • The future – what electric air travel could look like as the technology develops.

You can also think about things like: how to make batteries lighter, how to charge planes quickly, and what other cool designs could make electric aircraft fly even further.

3. hydrogen fuel

Hydrogen Fuel isn’t new – it’s been around since 1839! But now, scientists and engineers think it could be the future of zero-carbon flying. Some people believe hydrogen could change aviation forever, while others aren’t so sure…

We’d like you to explain in your poster:

  • Why hydrogen could be the fuel of the future for aeroplanes.
  • Pros and cons – what’s great about hydrogen, and what makes it tricky.
  • Examples – cool prototypes and hydrogen-powered aircraft being developed right now.
  • Challenges – what needs to happen before passengers can fly safely on hydrogen planes.
  • How it works in real life – how hydrogen would need to be made, stored, and transported for aircraft.

You can also explore: New ways to make hydrogen, rules and safety regulations, which companies are leading the way, and how hydrogen compares to fossil fuels.

4. biomimictry

Biomimicry means using ideas from nature to design amazing new technology. For aircraft, this could mean copying the smartest tricks from animals to make flying greener, faster, and more efficient!

We’d like you to design a new aircraft concept inspired by nature. For example:

  • A special aircraft skin shaped like fish scales to improve aerodynamics.
  • Wings designed like birds’ to make flying more efficient.
  • Landing gear inspired by frog legs for super-strong take-offs and landings.

Make sure you explain the logic being your idea.

Use your imagination! Think about how animals and plants survive, move, or adapt, and how their ideas could inspire the future of flight.
