The BBC Look East team came to meet our Boeing sponsored gliding to solo scholarship winners of 2018 as well as taking to the skies at the London Gliding Club on the 22nd August.

The day was organised by the Air League and Boeing as an opportunity for the media to find out more about our scholarship programmes as well as celebrating the achievements of the scholars. This was also a great opportunity to promote the great sport of gliding to the wider audience.

‘Class of 2018’, made up of nine 17-18 year old students from three London Schools (Skinners Academy, All Saints and Kingdale) are currently undertaking a 2-week residential course at the London Gliding Club with the ultimate aim of achieving a solo flight at the end of the course.  The students have done fantastically well in their gliding training to date and were not only complimented across the board by their flying instructors on their flying skills but also on their behaviour, attitude and sense of team work.

This is the 6th year of the scholarship and within that time, almost a 100 young people have been able to take advantage of this opportunity through gliding to solo scheme sponsored by Boeing and British Airways.

We hope to continue the success of this scholarship programme in 2019.

Thank you again to our sponsors Boeing and British Airways for their generosity and to the London Gliding Club for hosting us for the media day.
