What was claimed as the first British Caledonian Aviation event for 30 years was held at Biggin Hill when light aircraft G-RECW was repainted in the old airline’s company colours, and named “Julie- The Spirit of BCAL”. It was repainted to celebrate the memory of Julie Washington, owner Robin Washington’s late wife. It is intended to take the aircraft to various air shows to help raise money for charities. BCAL was a well-loved private airline that provided scheduled and charter operations around the world, operating Boeing 707s, BAC 1-!!s and DC-10s. It also helped launch the Airbus A320, becoming the first UK airline to buy this hugely successful aircraft. Sadly a highly distinctive tartan colour-scheme intended for the A320 fleet never appeared as the airline was absorbed by British Airways and the first deliveries were finished in BA colours.
